The Bung Karno Museum is the old house occupied by Soekarno during his years of exile in Ende. Most of the old furniture are still there. While was exiled in Ende, Soekarno wrote and held several plays, together with Tomel Kelimutu Theatre Group. Among the plays were Rendorua Ola Nggera Nusa (Rendo that stirred the archipelago) and Doctor Satan, a revision on the story of Dr. Frankenstein.

Ende is the capital of the Ende Regency, East Nusa Tenggara province of Indonesia. Ende is located on the southern coast of Flores Island. With a population of 60,000 residents,[citation needed] it is the biggest city on the island.

Ende was the site of a kingdom that existed around the end of 18th century. The people of the area therefore known as Lio-Ende people. For many decades Ende has been a center of government, trade, education, and political activities.

Rebellion against the Dutch was led by a certain Nipa Do known as the wars of Watu Api and Mari Longa (1916-1917). In 1934, the nationalist leader, Soekarno, who later became Indonesian first president was exiled to Ende by the Dutch colonial government.

The town Ende lies at the foot of Iya, Ipi, Meja, and Wongge mountains. The beautiful bays of Ende, Ipi, and Mbuu are favorite places for beach recreation. Ende can be reached by aircraft from Kupang, or from Denpasar via Bima, or by boat from Surabaya or Kupang.

Near the football field in Ende stands a big breadfruit tree. Under the tree, Soekarno often sat, working on political ideas to lead Indonesia to independence. Those reflection contributed to the opening of Pancasila concept, which is now the state philosophy of Indonesia. From here Pancasila was born. Today, Pancasila Birth Monument stands on this place.

Nggela is an amazing little weaving village, if you can stomach the journey to get there. Here the villages were showing us how they ferment the indigo used in their phenomenal Ikat weaving.

Kelimutu is a volcano, close to the town of Moni in central Flores Island of Indonesia containing three summit crater lakes of varying colors. Tiwu Ata Mbupu (Lake of Old People) is usually blue and is the westernmost of the three lakes. The other two lakes, Tiwu Nuwa Muri Koo Fai (Lake of Young Men and Maidens) and Tiwu Ata Polo (Bewitched or Enchanted Lake) are separated by a shared crater wall and are typically green or red in color, respectively. The lake colors do vary on a periodic basis. Subaqueous fumaroles are the probable cause of active upwelling that occurs at the two eastern lakes.[1]

The lake have been a source of minor phreatic eruptions in historical time. The summit of the compound 1639-m-high Kelimutu volcano is elongated two km in a WNW-ESE direction; the older cones of Kelido and Kelibara are located respectively three km to the north and two km to the south.

The scenic lakes are a popular tourist destination.

A short walk through a foggy bamboo forest brings us to the site of Old Wogo where the ancestral megaliths (basically piles of large rock shards) of the current village still reside, one for each family group. For the Ngada, the family megalith provides an unmoving reference point from which to draw a sense of identity and belonging even if one moves away to a distant city.
